Mainz ended in seventh place with 53 points after a 3-2 win over Hamburg that must win a relegation playoff to maintain a record as the only club never relegated from the Bundesliga.

The German football season closes next weekend with the DFB Pokal final between defending champions Bayern and Dortmund.
