The Aviary Club of Nigeria has called for justice, fairness and equality towards ensuring 2019 general election will be conducted peacefully.

Ogun State President of the club, Mr Sowunmi Gbenga gave the warning while speaking with journalists shortly after he led members of the club and corps members in a rally in Abeokuta, in commemoration of this year’s International Peace Day.

Gbenga warned politicians against desperation in the pursuit of their ambitions in next year’s elections.

He also called on the Federal Government to redouble its effort to put an end to insurgency in the Northeast to give room for conduct of elections in the troubled areas.

Gbenga said “We know there are chaos in some part of this country. They are not experiencing peace especially in the Northeast. Our rally is part of efforts in preaching peace. We need peace in Nigeria.

“We urge the government to conduct this election peacefully. Election should not be a do or die affairs. Aspirants should allow the will of the people to prevail,” he urged.

In the same vein, the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Abeokuta, urged politicians to play by rules of the game towards achieving credible polls.

This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the 2018 Local Organisation President, Sanni Babatunde and the Peace Committee Chairman, Adegboye Ishaq.

“As we countdown to 2019 general elections, we admonish the major stakeholders in the electioneering process to play by the rules of the game as this is one of the major pathways peace can be achieved before, during and after elections,” the statement said.
