Senate mace being seized

Nigerian Senate was thrown into disarray on Wednesday after suspected thugs invaded the chamber and made away with the maze.
Reports indicated that incident happened few seconds after a suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, entered the chamber.

About 10 suspected thugs came to National Assembly with the senator and forced their entrance into the chamber, Premium Times reported.

The thugs seized the mace and ran out of the chamber and later left the National Assembly with the maze in a black SUV.

Security personnel said they could not stop the thugs because Senator Omo Agege said they were with him.

“We tried to stop them but they told us they were with him (Omo-Agege),” he said.

Punch newspaper reports that Deputy Senate Ike Ekweremadu was presiding when the incident happened.

The senators are yet to reconvene as at the time of filing this report.
