Kogi govt vows to arrest killers of labour leader, friend

Kogi State Government has expressed shock over the brutal assassination of one Mal. Abdulmumuni Yakubu, a staff of Kogi State Science, Technology and Technical Education Board alongside a friend in Okene early Thursday morning.

The killing of Yakubu, the State Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Science and Technology Education Board has led to suspension of negotiations between the labour unions and the state government on the suspension of ongoing workers strike.

Reports indicated that Yakub was murdered at Ozuwaya, in Okene Local Area of Kogi State alongside one Ibrahim Otaru when they were performing ablution for the early morning prayer.

Sources told journalists that five suspected assassins alighted from a Toyota Sienna bus and opened fire on the two men, ensuring that they were dead before they drove off from the scene.

The Director General of Bureau of Information Services and Grassroots Sensitisation, Mr Abdulkarim Abdulmalik, while reacting to the gruesome murder, assured the people of the State of  government’s determination of bring the culprits to book.

“I want to assure the good people of Kogi State that Government would leave no stone on touch to bring the perpetrators to justice. The present administration has zero tolerance to criminal activities and hold human life as sacrosanct,” he assured.

He pointed out that security agencies in the state has been directed to carry out a massive manhunt for the criminals, warning those who have perchance for criminal activities that Government has taken step to make the State uncomfortable for them.

He expressed the deep sadness and grief of the State Government over the unfortunate event and condoled with the family over the incident, praying that Almighty God should console the family and give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
