Adamawa Commissioner for Health, Dr Fatima Atiku, said some communities that missed out in the distribution of over two million mosquito nets in the state have threatened to boycott Immunisation Plus Days (IPDs).

Adamawa Government, in collaboration with Federal Government and other stakeholders, early this month distributed 2.5 million Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) to the 21 local government areas in the state.

Atiku, who was speaking Monday at the debriefing by the Net Campaign team in Yola, said she was concerned about the households that missed out in the distribution of the mosquito nets.

She noted that the committee did not indicate the number of the communities that missed out of the distribution in its report.

“We are getting threats from people that if we don’t give them the nets, they are not going to bring out their children for vaccination.

‘’We know that immunisation plus days are continuous as we are going to have that of measles at the end of this month,” Atiku said.

She noted that many communities did not get the net and were agitated to the extent that someone during the visit of Gov.Muhammadu Bindow to Mubi during the weekend approached the governor to complain.

She urged the team to reach out to its financiers to allow it remain in Adamawa and reach out to those yet to get the nets.

The commissioner said the issue of the net would really affect immunization.

Earlier, the leader of the team, Mr John Ochili, said the distribution of the nets in the state recorded 96.2 per cent success, making the effort among the best ever in Nigeria.

Ochili said the team was still awaiting the compilation of the number of communities that missed out in the distribution, adding that so far there was over 90,000 nets remaining to be given out in Adamawa.

The Deputy Governor of Adamawa, Mr Martins Babale lauded the team for recording 96.2 per cent success in the distribution of the nets.

He said that the distribution would effectively address malaria cases in the state and help the state to save money that would have been spent on malaria in next year’s budget.

According to him, the money to be saved as a result of the distribution of the nets will be channelled to other developmental projects.

Dr Abdullahi Belel, Executive Chairman, Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency also commended the team for its effort in the distribution of the nets.

Babale and Belel, however, urged the team to do something about the communities that were yet to receive the nets.
