The Jigawa Government is to distribute 1,650 tons of assorted grains to indigent residents to cushion their feeding during the fasting period of Ramadan.

The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, said this on Thursday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Dutse.

“The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the purchase of 1,650 tons of grains at the cost of over N243 million for distribution to the less privileged in the state.

“This is part of the state government efforts to assist the less privileged in the month of Ramadan,” Ibrahim said.

He said the council also approved the construction of primary health centres in 30 towns of the state at the cost of over N584 million.

Ibrahim said that the council also approved the release of N150 million counterpart funding for the procurement of food meant for malnourished children.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Jigawa government had during the 2016 Ramadan distributed 32,000 tons of assorted grains for free to needy persons across the state.

Gov. Muhammad Badaru said his administration cancelled the celebration of one year anniversary due to economic hardship.

Badaru said government rechanneled the money to purchase the grains and distribute it to the needy to ease their conditions.

In 2016, the government distributed 32,000 tons of assorted grains, with 10 bags given to each of the 3,527 polling units in the state.
