Coach excited as Rangers hold El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri

Rangers FC of Enugu:

Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Wednesday drew 1-1 with hosts El-Kanemi Warriors FC in a 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 23 fixture in Maiduguri.

The match played at the El-Kanemi Sports Centre in Maiduguri saw both teams trying to outsmart one another without success and to the pleasure of the home fans.

The visitors were however the first to score, after Daniel Etor latched on to a defensive error by the home team to score in the 68th minute.

Elias Utako scored the equaliser in the 81st minute to the admiration of the home fans.

Spectators at the match included Youth and Sports Minister Solomon Dalung who expressed satisfaction at the large turnout at the match.

Speaking at a post-match conference, Rangers’ coach Agbor Chukuma attributed the result to hard work and determination.

“I am very happy we have broken a jinx here. Anything without grace of God will not work. We really worked hard and God crowned it for us,” he said.

Chukuma said the victory would ginger the team into victory in its future matches.

“We are going home happy. We have an important match against Akwa United, who are also a good side’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is the first time El-Kanemi Warriors are recording a draw at home in the season.

Meanwhile, coach Ladan Bosso of El-Kanemi Warriors has declined comment on the outcome, of the match.
