Tragedy as 3 sisters drown in Bauchi stream

Tragedy struck in Bauchi on Sunday as a family lost three daughters to drowning. The father of the three girls identified as Samaila Magaji of Konkiel Town in Darazo LGA of Bauchi State according to Haruna Mohammed, the public relations officer of the Bauchi State Police Command said had reported at about 8:pm to the Police that his three daughters who left home around 5. 30 pm were later discovered unconscious at a nearby stream some hours later.

Magaji, according to the Police, identified the girls as Aisha Abdulmumin, Aisha Abdulmumin and Amina Abdulmumin aged seven, five and three years respectively.

The public relations office said following the report, a Police patrol team attached to Darazo division visited the scene, rescued the girls and rushed them to General hospital Darazo for medical attention.

He however noted that the three sisters were certified dead on arrival at the hospital by a medical doctor.

The Police PRO said the corpses of the girls have been deposited at the mortuary for post-mortem examination after which they would be released to relatives for burial according to Islamic Rites.

He added that the death of the girls is under investigation to ascertain actual cause of the incident while advising parents and guardians to caution their children to stay away from streams or rivers in order not to fall victims of drowning especially during the period rainy season.
