Security operatives recover 7 guns in Anambra

Operatives of the Department of State Security Services, and a patrol team from 302 General Support Regiment Onitsha recovered seven pump action guns during a cordon and search operation in three communities – Amansi – Umuru, Orukabia and Graceland Housing Estate, Nteje general area all in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday.

Two suspects were also arrested during the operation which according to security operatives, was carried out due to  an intelligence report.

Colonel SAGIR MUSA, Deputy Director Public Relations, 82 Division of Nigerian Army who revealed this in a statement added that the operation was conducted in the early hours of Sunday at about 06:00 am.

He noted that the three-Amansi – Umuru, Orukabia and Graceland Estate Nteje have been in acrimonious land/chieftaincy tussle which has led to the gruesome murder of three civilians by suspected thugs.

Consequently, the areas have been under security surveillance for sometimes.

Sagir said specifically, the weapons were discovered in building number 8, Chukwunonso Ndulue Street in Graceland Housing Estate, Nsugbe, and Onitsha. The other items were recovered from the building include one hunter knife and two cutlasses.

He added that the suspects and exhibits will soon be handed over to the police while urging members of the public to continue to give useful information and report any suspicious movement of person or object to security agencies.
