President Mohammadu Buhari:

Three prominent monarchs on Wednesday lauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war and urged him not to relent in the fight to rid the country of corrupt practices.

The monarchs gave their support while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of the ongoing World Conference of Banking Institutes on Wednesday in Lagos.

The thee monarchs are Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akinlolu and Olupoti of Ipoti Ekiti, Oba Isiah Ayeni.

They all agreed that any one found to be corrupt should be brought to book.

Oba Ogunwusi said there were bound to be challenges in the fight against corruption, but the government should not relent.

He said the fight should be sustained until the perpetrators were overwhelmed.

Speaking on the theme of the conference, ‘’Rethink the future of Banking and Finance and Life Long Learning,“Ogunwusi said capital flight was a major challenge that could malign the Nigerian economy.

According to him, there is the need to guard against capital flight because capital flight is the major challenge the country is facing.

“Most practitioners don’t follow the law when operating a business, so there is need to have a tight operation against it within the banking industry for economic development.”

Ogunwusi urged the banking sector to encourage the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for inclusive growth.

Akiolu urged all traditional rulers to support the Presidency in the war against corruption by ensuring sincerity in all their deals.

“Even if you are a traditional ruler and you are neck deep in fraud, nemesis will catch up with the ruler one day.

“There is no hiding place any more for corrupt persons because one will be caught in no distance time,” he said.

The Oba advised the Federal Government to empower undergraduates with startup loans so that they could start small businesses instead of waiting for white collar jobs.

He suggested that the loans should be given to undergraduates that deserved them year before leaving universities to commence trades instead of looking for jobs that were rare.

“This is necessary also because the number of graduates turned out by the universities escalates annually while the job opportunities are diminishing,” he said.

Ayeni also applauded the President for his bold step of probing citizens who were alleged to have misappropriated public funds.

. “We have been very active in supporting President Buhari’s campaign against corruption and we think it is fundamental if we must transform the country,” he said.
