Popular Nigerian actor,  Olumide Bakare is dead.

It was gathered that the veteran actor, popularly known as Chief Koko died in Ibadan,  Oyo State capital

He has been battling heart-related ailment in the past few months.

Some of his colleagues in the entertainment industry, including , actor Saheed Balogun confirmed the death of the actor on their social media pages.

“Yes, it is true Olumide Bakare is dead. He died on his way to his hospital. When I called his number, his personal assistant picked his phone and told me he was dead. That’s how much I can say for now,” Balogun was quoted as saying by Ibadan based Tribune newspaper.

Report in the online edition of the newspaper indicates that  Bakare’s  was rushed to University College Hospital, UCH,  when he condition got worse in the middle of the night by his personal assistant, but was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

The actor is most popular for his lead role in the 80s TV comedy drama, Koko Close, from where he got his famous nickname, Chief Koko.

He has also acted in many contemporary movies.

His colleagues had last year raised funds for his treatment following his admission at the University College Hospital, UCH in Ibadan, Oyo State for treatment.

Information indicated that the actor has been battling the ailment which he described as Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm and Pulmonary Embolism- a blockage in the vein that takes blood to the heart since 2013.
