The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that the Ondo State Gov., Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has disclosed that his administration was ready to partner with Wema Bank, to enable him fulfil some of his campaign promises to the people of Ondo State.

Akeredolu made this known on Monday while receiving officials of Wema Bank, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Office in Akure.

He also said that the bank should come up with ideas on how to develop the state, commending the bank’s managing Director on the bank’s readiness to go into partnership with the state government.

“We have interest in Wema Bank and the greatest thing they have offered us is their partnership which I am sure, they can take for granted because we have no option than to partner with them.

“They also donated one of their top officers who has assisted us immeasurably on our budget and economic committee,’’ he added.

Akeredolu described Wema Bank as “our bank, and there is no way we will run away from it”.

Earlier, Mr Segun Oloketuyi, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Wema Bank Plc, congratulated the governor and wished him a successful tenure which he said, should bring good tidings to Ondo State.

He explained that they were the major stakeholders in Ondo, the biggest bank with 11 branches, and had no regrets to belong to South-West States.

“We have gone beyond the south-west to most parts of the north, east and the south-south, but our strength is still in this part of Nigeria.

“To its credit, Wema has the history of partnering with the locals. We are here to pledge our support for your government, whose programmes are laudable and oriented towards the people.

“Banking today has become a major catalyst for economic development and we will play our role.

“Partnership is what we bring to Ondo State and under your watch and leadership, we believe we can work together towards delivering part of your goals to the people,” he added.
