A democracy group, Campaign for Good Governance, has praised the community health programme of the Ogun State government.

It said the health scheme termed “Araya” had succeeded in meeting the health needs of the rural women and their children.

According to a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr Ganiyu Lasisi, “The novel initiative by the Ibikunle Amosun government, which involves the use of cards containing the biometrics of peasant women to access free health in designated health centres across the state, deserves commendation.”

“Field reports in all the Local Government Areas of Ogun State show that the programme is working and that more women and children are being enrolled into the scheme. This is touching the local women and their children in the major area of need and we praise the current government for the initiative,” Ganiyu said.

The statement, however, noted that “more work needs to be done and hopes that once the country overcomes the current recession and the finances of the state return to an even keel, more grounds will be covered by the state government in the sector.”
