Contrary to figures being peddled by the Nasarawa state chapter of People’s Democratic Party, PDP, the State Government has confirmed the receipt of N8.4b as its share of the Paris /London Club refunds. A break down of the figure shows that the state government had the lion share of N5.4b while the Local Governments shared N3b. This was contained in a statement signed by Ahmed Tukur, Special Assistant to the state Governor on Media and Publicity.

Tukur accused the opposition of feeding members of the public with outright lies and half truths through a publication titled “non-payment of workers January salary: where is N2.7b warehoused? Nasarawa PDP asks Almakura” and urged the people to ignore the claims.

The Media Assistant accused the opposition of raising false alarm over salary payment for the month of January. According to him, “the state government and labour had signed an agreement on the 10th of December, 2016 that if accruals from the federation account is not sufficient to pay salaries in any month, the said amount shall be reserved and added to the accruals from the following month to pay one month salary in full.”

He recalls that “it’s on record that Nasarawa state is the first in the federation to implement the minimum wage with a director collecting over Two hundred and forty thousand Naira as monthly salary.

Tukur disclosed that the Paris Club refunds had since been judiciously utilized as advised by the Federal Government and assured the workers that Al-Makura administration will always make staff welfare and accountability matters of priority.

He advised the state PDP to avoid making disloyal comments and disparaging statements that are capable of causing disharmony in the polity.
