Gov. Obaseki of Edo State

The Edo House of Assembly on Monday called on the state government to extend ongoing road rehabilitation in Benin metropolis to Uhunmwode Local Government Area.

This followed a resolution of the house on a motion “Matter of Urgent Public Importance’’ by Mrs Elizabeth Ativie (APC Uhunmwode).

Moving the motion earlier, Ativie said that most of the roads in the local government area were earth roads and had become impassable.

She said that a ward in the area had been completely cut off from other communities as a result of poor state of the roads.

“The roads are being ravaged by erosion menace. Several cash crops and others are perishing in the farms.

“The farmers have no accessible roads to transport their products to the urban areas for sale.

“The local government council whose duty it is to maintain these roads do not have the means to do so.

“The worst hit roads are Obadan-Evbohuan-Ebueneki-Ugonoba road, Ewan-Ugoneki road and Ogheghe-Uma-Irighon road,” she said.

Other lawmakers supported the motion and called on the Ministry of Works, Rapid Respond Agency and SEEFOR to immediately commence the rehabilitation of the roads in the area.
In his remarks, Speaker of the house, Mr Justin Okonoboh, commended the state government for embarking on road rehabilitation within Benin metropolis and called for extension to other parts of the state.

Meanwhile, a Bill for a law to establish Edo State Control of Nomadic Cattle Rearing and Grazing Agency was given first reading on Monday.
