U.S. President-elect Donald Trump is headed to Washington as he prepares to be sworn in as 45th President of the U.S. on Friday.

Trump said on Twitter on Thursday morning that “the journey begins and I will be working and fighting very hard to make it a great journey for the American people.”

His arrival in Washington would begin a weekend of official events, starting with a lunch with his incoming cabinet and formal wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery.

Events will culminate at noon on Friday when Trump would be sworn in and he would deliver remark to the American people at the U.S. Capitol.

The inaugural address would be “less of an agenda and more of a philosophical document on where he sees the country,’’Spokesperson Sean Spicer said.

Spicer added that “he is ready to enact his agenda from day one, including signing executive orders on issues such as health care, terrorism and immigration during his first few days in office.’’

Also, Vice President-elect Mike Pence said “we are ready to serve the American people and make America great again on day one.’’

Trump had named former Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue as his choice for agriculture Secretary, completing the selection of his cabinet.

Several members of the current administration who were key to national security and foreign policy would stay on to ensure continuity of government.

They include State Department Undersecretary Thomas Shannon, Deputy Defence Secretary Robert Work, Brett McGurk, the liaison to the anti-Islamic State coalition; and Adam Szubin, who oversees sanctions for the Treasury Department, Spicer said. (dpa/NAN)
