The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that Tor Tiv-elect James Ayatse says his reign will support the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in promoting information technology and sciences in Tiv dialect.

He said in Makurdi on Saturday that the purpose of his support was to increase the chances for Tiv scientists to contribute their knowledge to the country’s socio-economic growth.

Ayatse was speaking when SUBEB’s Executive Secretary, Mr philip Tachin, led a delegation on a congratulatory visit to him.

“We are an agrarian state, science and technology should complement what we are, we need scientists and farmers to work on our farm produce for export.

“We need them to bring in new ideas for crop production from planting to harvesting stages,’’ he said.

He pledged his support to the government, organisations or any individual with ideas in promoting information technology and sciences in Benue.

In his response, Tachin said that the teaching of information technology and sciences would be revived in primary schools within the first quarter of 2017.

He said the teaching of science subjects in Tiv dialect from primary schools was underway, adding that by so doing, the youth would have a better understanding and love for sciences.

He called on Tiv sons who were scientists to come forth to contribute their quarter to the actualisation of the plan.

“We need Tiv scientists, who will help translate some science books from English language to Tiv dialect for the books to be added to school’s curriculum,’’ he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Ayatse, a professor of Biochemistry, was elected on Dec. 20, 2016 as the fifth king of Tivland.
