Governor Yari of Zamfara State: Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum

 The News agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that Chairman of Birnin-Magaji Local Government Council, Zamfara, Alhaji Muhammad Umar, has decried the shortage of teachers in primary schools in the area.

Umar said this at the 60th anniversary ceremony of Dan’ali Maude Primary School on Monday in Birnin-Magaji.

According to NAN, the event was organised by the school’s old boys association to honour deserving teachers, old students and important personalities who contributed to the development of the school.

He said that primary schools in the area were inadequately staffed and lacked furniture and teaching materials.

Umar said that though the state government had made great efforts in the total renovation of primary schools across the state, there was need to employ more teachers.

He emphasised that there was also need to provide learning materials to enhance teaching and learning processes.

He commended the old boys association for organising the event and gave assurance that the council would continue to support its activities to improve education in the area.

Besides, he advised youths in the area to embrace peace and avoid all forms of violence, political or religious crisis in order to promote stability and development.

The chairman also called on youths to enrol in schools and embrace small businesses to achieve self-reliance and ensure socio economic development of the area.

He further urged all stakeholders to support government’s efforts to provide education to the people, saying “education is a collective responsibility, therefore every one of us has a vital role to play to improve it”.

The Chairman of the state Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Alhaji Murtala Jangebe, also commended the old boys association for organising the event which he described as a welcome development.

Jangebe said that the state government was making arrangements to employ 1,000 teachers to tackle the problem of inadequate teachers in primary schools across the state.

“We are aware of this problem and we are making efforts to tackle it; last week, we had a meeting with the state governor about this issue,” he said.

The SUBEB chairman also enjoined teachers in the state to be dedicated in the discharge of their duties and appealed to all stakeholders to support government’s efforts in the education sector.

On his part, the Emir of Birnin-Magaji, Alhaji Ahmad Umar, said that the emirate would continue to support any programme that would improve the education and development of the people of the area.

He commended the people of the emirate for their efforts to ensure development of education in the area and urged them to do more.

NAN also reports that among the old students of the school who received awards of excellence was the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mansur Dan’ali.

Also honoured were the Regional Manager of Sky Bank, Abuja, Alhaji Hussaini Dangaladima; and the Regional Manager, Unity Bank, Sokoto, Alhaji Aminu Moyi, among others.
