Idris Wada: Former governor of Kogi State

The immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Capt Idris Wada on Thursday said his disappearance from public activities in the last Six months was strategic and for self preservation. The former governor who just returned to the country said he went under cover for a deserved vacation and partly because his life was under threat shortly after last year Nov 21 governorship election. He disclosed further that during his sojourn in the United Kingdom and the United States of America, he developed himself in information technology.

Wada who was speaking at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja, today thanked his supporters for their loyalty and called on members of the PDP to remain united and unwavering in their determination to make the party strong in the State. He urged all members to imbibe the spirit of true reconciliation.

According to him, “it was very wise and strategic for me to go under for sometimes because there were pockets of threats to my life, and I had to secretly relocate to the UK for about four months to save my head and also take some rest, because I was virtually working for 15 hours every day in my four years administration without rest”

The former governor who debunked rumour of his been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC or any security organisation also denied the rumour that he was sick.

In his words” in my months of sojourn abroad, some people were rumouring that I ran away to evade arrest from the EFCC and ICPC, some even said I took ill because we lost in the election. I want to tell you that no security organisation has so far invited me for questioning, neither was I sick, because I served the state with all my abilities and conscience and I have no need to fear anybody ” he said

Wada who expressed the need for the party members to come together ahead of 2019 governorship election in the state, said it was clear now that PDP was far better than the ruling party in the state stressing that the party should forget about the past election and move on.

The PDP state chairman, Mr Samuel Uhuotu also pleaded with party members not to be swayed by the crisis rocking the national leadership of the party and said the issue was about to be resolved .

He however said the party was seriously facing financial crisis in the state as there was no money to run its secretariat even as he pleaded with notable party members to do all they can to fund the party.

Several other party leaders who spoke also implored members not to be wary about the current situation but to count this last governorship election as a lesson and opportunity to rekindle their hope and re strategise to win power again.
The meeting was attended by members and leaders from all local governments in the state.
