Reza Ghafori, spokesman for Jauzjan Provincial Government in Afghanistan, has said that hundreds of Afghan civilians took up arms to defend the government against Taliban militants in northern part of the province.

He made the statement on Monday in Shiberghan

He said hundreds of people across the province gathered in Aqcha district and voiced their support for the government and government forces in the war against armed oppositions including Taliban rebels.

“Hundreds of people about 900 bought arms and ammunition with their own money and vowed to defend government forces against Taliban and other insurgent groups,’’ he said.

Ghafori said that Lutfullah Azizi, Jauzjan’s Provincial Governor, commended the villagers for supporting the government in the war against armed militants.

He said that the governor had vowed to assist the villagers to achieve their mission. (Reuters/NAN)
