The Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction of PDP had announced that National Convention approves the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Committee, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi by 12 months in a convention held at the state Secretariat Port Harcourt.

The motion was moved by Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekeremadu and Seconded by the Former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Zainab Maina.

The Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, Nyesom Wike put forward the question for the extension of the lifespan of the committee, which was unanimously approved. The National Caretaker Committee was expanded to have a membership of 13 persons.

The National Convention had earlier adopted a motion moved by the Minority Leader, Leo Ogor to amend the agenda of the National Convention and step down the issue of election.

Wike announced that members of the new Caretaker committee are not allowed to contest any election in the convention.

However, th Rivers State Independent Electoral National Electoral Commissioner, Aniedi Ikoiwak, said the electoral umpire is not aware of any PDP convention holding at the PDP Secretariat along Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway after its botched convention at Sharks Stadium Port Harcourt.

“It is not my job running around party members to find out where they were meeting. INEC is not aware of any convention at PDP Secretariat.

Aniedi Ikoiwak was reacting to a question if INEC was aware of the convention shifted to PDP state Secretariat.

Meanwhile the Rivers state Police Commissioner, Francis Odesanya has dismissed the insinuation that the Police sealed Sharks stadium denying PDP from holding their convention.

“All we did was to provide security to the venue of the convention, which is our primary responsibility.” Rivers CP explained.
