With all the lead runners opting for three-stop strategies, Hamilton never looked in serious trouble as he managed his advantage up front, while behind Rosberg fought hard to recover, passing Verstappen for second place with a muscular move at Turn 6 on lap 30, only to be subsequently handed a 5-second time penalty for forcing the Dutchman off the road in the process.
That dropped him back behind both Red Bulls for good, with Ricciardo making the most of a superior strategy to get the better of his team mate.
