Nigerian troops from 113 Battalion  are at present locked in a fierce battle with Boko Haram terrorists at Kareto, northern Borno state.

The army spokesman Colonel Sani Usman, gave the alert and promised to furnish more information later.

“The troops have been battling the insurgents since (the) early hours of today”, Usman said.

No further details were immediately available from the remote area in Kareto where the clashes occurred.

Kareto is south of Damasak and north of Gubio town and not far from the borders with  Niger.

The army in recent times had intensified flushing the Boko Haram  fighters out of their comfort zones and camps, seizing their ammunitions supply, food and transport.

A clearance patrol to Borgozo-Alargano general area on Sunday yielded a  large cache of arms and ammunitions concealed by Boko Haram terrorists in a bunker.

The patrol team also cleared remnants of Boko Haram terrorists that were dislodged from Alagarno forest hibernating at Kadari, Camp Abu Fatima and Gursum.

The troops discovered large cache of arms and ammunitions that include 36 boxes of .51mm calibre, 5 x 20 Lyra beefcake mixture of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition, large quantity of 7.62mm (Special), ammunition and one 81mm mortar tube.

In addition, the troops recovered 1 Toyota Hilux, 1 Generator and several motorcycles.
