Ofinjite Amachree

Here is the face of Ofinjite Amachree, the All Progressives Congress member brutally murdered by persons suspected to be thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Amachree was an APC member in Buguma, Asari-Toru council of the state.

The thugs first beat him into stupor  before setting  him on fire.

Amachree was the 10th  person to be killed in the state, few days to the rerun elections into the senate, House of Representatives and  the House of Assembly. In Omuku, an APC ward chairman was shot dead and then beheaded. His wife and son were also shot dead. Four APC members, not yet identified were also killed in Obibi, Etche LGA and another party member, Gabriel Cookey was murdered in Opobo.

The APC leaders are worried about the return of mindless political violence in the state. In the run-up to the general election last year, members of the party were similarly targeted by the PDP thugs.

Dr. Dakuku Peterside, governorship candidate of the  APC in the 2015 elections described as   gruesome and callous, the  murder of Ofinjite Amachree.

Peterside decried the on-going mass executions in Rivers State, describing it as frightening.

According to him, the frightening  security situation in Rivers State is  a direct affront on the federal government’s power to protect lives and property within its territory.

Peterside who spoke in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital said Rivers State urgently needs help.

“The security situation in our dear state is distressing and we cannot continue to live under such a desperate situation. I am therefore using this opportunity to again draw the attention of the world to daily killings taking place in Rivers State.

“Last Friday, Mr. Franklin, APC Ward 4 Chairman in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area was killed and beheaded with his wife in Omoku. Franklin who recently moderated APC ward meeting in the LGA hails from the same ward as the State Chairman of the PDP, Felix Obuah.

“Four APC persons were killed in Obibi, Etche LGA in the last 48 hours. Gabriel Cookey was clubbed to death in Opobo, Opobo/Nkoro LGA today by suspected cultist “.

“Only this morning,  in Buguma ,  Ofinjite Amachree , an APC member was set ablaze by thugs who are members of PDP”.

“In fact, in the last two weeks, over 30 APC members have been killed in different parts of Rivers State. We are tired of this bloodbath; this is why we are calling on the federal government and Nigerians generally to come to our aid.

“As citizens of Rivers State, we know that this heart-rending situation is a fallout of loss of moral right by the Nyesom Wike-led government to fight criminality having benefitted from their activities in the recent past. But this killing must stop and the time is now.”

“Unfortunately members of PDP are heeding the call by Nyesom Wike to burn alive members of the opposition and other electoral personnel who stand on their way to victory in the forthcoming rerun elections in Rivers State.”
