Rangers International  edged Enyimba FC, 2-1 in the battle of Enugu, thus extending  their lead atop the table of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

It was an epic Match Day Nine fixture in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The visiting team scored first in the match played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, from a 17th minute shot by Joseph Osadieye, to send shock and apprehension through the Rangers family.

However, the hosts drew level in the 25th minute through Godwin Aguda, from a close range shot in the penalty area.

Rangers then went on to score the second goal in the 37th minute, after an excellent finishing by Chisom Egbuchulam following a flowing move.

After the game, Rangers FC’s Technical Adviser, Imama Amapakabo, said his team fought hard to win the match.

“It was not easy. I can tell you that the visiting team came not just to win but to humiliate us with their strong tenacity to win.

“However, with the resilience of our players and God’s grace, we were able to carry the day,’’ he said.

On his part, the Technical Adviser of Enyimba, Paul Aigbogun, said the Aba side did the playing and controlled about 62 per cent of the game.

“It was hard luck for us today, since we did the playing, which everybody who watched the match could attest to.

“However, football is at times fraught with uncertainties,’’ Aigbogun said.

The  25,000-capacity stadium was nearly filled up for the match.
