After a week’s postponement, the 2016 DStv Basketball Men’s League dunked off Friday across various centres.

The league was postponed for a week due to the three clubs that were axed by Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, over their participation in another league the Nigeria Basketball Federation said was illegal.

In some of the matches scheduled for Day One of the season, Nigeria Customs Service Basketball Club of Lagos will play against former champions, Royal Hoopers of Port Harcourt, as the race to win the title in the Atlantic Conference.

Three teams were sanctioned by the NBBF in the Conference. They are Lagos Islanders, Union Bank and Dodan Warriors.

At the Savannah Conference, the Kwara Falcons of Ilorin, league defending champions, Mark Mentors, will begin their title defence against Kada Stars of Kaduna in Abuja.

Four times champions and last season’s runners-up, Kano Pillars, will welcome Bauchi Nets in Kano on Saturday.

Games to be played in the Savannah Conference this weekend are Plateau Peaks versus Gombe Bulls, Niger Potters taking on Nigeria Immigration Service of Kano.

Meanwhile, President of NBBF, Tijani Umar, who was grateful for the sponsorship support from Satellite TV provider, DStv, promised basketball fans an exciting league.
