Sheikh el-Zakzaky: to see his lawyer today

Nigeria’s Shiite leader, Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky incommunicado since 13 December, 2015 when he was arrested by the military authorities will talk with his lawyers today.

Justice Muhammad Lawal-Garba, the Chairman, Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Dec. 12 Army/Shiites clash in Zaria, said he has the assurances of the Department of State Services, to make the religious leader available to his lawyer.

He said the meeting would take place at noon today.

Justice Garba therefore  adjourned sitting till Wednesday.

The panel had on Monday, March 17 mandated the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) to submit a memorandum on March 21.

The commission had said the memorandum would form the basis for the sect’s appearance before the panel.

However, at the resumed sitting of the panel on Monday, Lawal-Garba announced that the panel would hear the memorandum of the Nigerian Army on March 23.
