Senior Magistrate Ahmed Hassan Fagge at a Kano Senior Magistrate Court in Nomans-Land, Sabon Gari, Kano, northwest Nigeria, has asked 11 hoodlums to stay in Prison for six months, for smoking Cannabis Sativa, since they could not afford to pay a fine of N10, 000 each.

Sergeant Haziel Lepdawa, a Police Prosecutor, told the Court that the police arrested the convicts from a location within Kano metropolis, where they are known to converge and engage in indiscriminate smoking of Cannabis Sativa.

Sergeant Haziel insisted that the culprits made the atmosphere uncomfortable to residents of the area.

According to the Police Prosecutor, “they acted in a manner that can be described as criminal conspiracy and constituting nuisance to Kano public.”

The convicts, who he described as Cannabis Sativa smokers were arrested around 8 P.M on 15 July, “at a black spot located within Kano metropolis.”

The Prosecutor further informed the Court that investigations into the matter have been concluded.

He prayed the court to proceed on a summary trial of the offenders, adding that on the charge sheet, the 11 persons who were found to have erred are, “Abdullhamid Ibrahim, 22, Hafizu Garba, 35, Sammani Sabo, 23, Mustapha Ibrahim,26, Muazu Sani,23, Abba Gambo,22, Abubakar Ibrahim, 20, Hamza Husaini, 27, Falalu Mohammed, Usman Abdullahi, and Ali Abdullah.”

The convicts admitted the allegations levied against them before the court.

They, however, pleaded with the Senior Magistrate of the Court for leniency.

Senior Magistrate Ahmed, considering the fact that they were first-timers offenders before his Court ordered the 11 of them to pay N10.000.00 as option of fine.

But the miscreants could not provide the money and they were remanded in Prison for six months.
