Premier League club West Bromwich-Albion – where Nigerian internationals Brown Ideye and Victor Anichebe ply their trade – have parted company with manager Alan Irvine on Tuesday, just six months after appointing him.

The decision was made ”with regret but sadly driven by necessity” according to the club’s Technical Director Terry Burton following a run of poor results in the league.

The Midlands club started the season on a fair note but have since managed to pick just two wins from their last 12 league matches, which sees the club just a point off the relegation zone at the halfway point of the campaign.

Assistant Head Coach Rob Kelly, with the assistance of Keith Downing, will take charge of the team for the New Year’s Day game at West Ham according to a club statement.

The statement further read ”[West Brom] expect to be able to name Irvine’s successor by the weekend”, while former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has already been linked with the vacant position.

Irvine becomes the second Premier League manager to lose his job following the exit of Neil Warnock from Crystal Palace days ago, with Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew and Hull City boss Steve Bruce linked with the vacant position at Selhurst Park.
