World football governing body FIFA has issued a final ultimatum to Nigeria for Chris Giwa to step out of office as President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) or be suspended from international football.

The final ultimatum, which expires on September 8 at 7 a.m. GMT was given after Giwa remained in office beyond the first ulimatum from FIFA which went by on Monday September 1.

This led a FIFA emergency committee, which met on Wednesday, to declare the September 7 ultimatum, which also requires that the NFF executive committee as at August 25 – which had Aminu Maigari as NFF President – be restored.

FIFA also expects for an elective congress to bring in a new NFF executive to be held as soon as possible, with a September 4 previously scheduled at an NFF general congress held in August.

Failure to meet with the FIFA emergency committee’s ultimatum would tentatively see Nigeria not play her Cup of African Nations qualification match against South Africa on September 10.

And failure to play the match against the Bafana Bafana would see the Super Eagles being disqualified from the competition which it won last year in South Africa.

Nigeria was suspended for nine days in July, soon after the FIFA World Cup, due to government interference in NFF affairs then, with the suspension lifted just in time for Nigeria to take part in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Canada where the Falconets finished as runners-up behind Germany.
