Radamel Falcao has completed his move from AS Monaco to Manchester United after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms at Old Trafford.

The deal to Man. United is a season-long loan for a £5m fee, with an option for the Red Devils to buy the Colombian striker permanently from AS Monaco at the end of the season.

After sealing the deal, Falcao stated ”I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal and contributing to the team’s success at this very exciting period in the club’s history.”

On his part, Man. United manager Louis van Gaal said “I am delighted Radamel has joined us on loan this season. He is one of the most prolific goalscorers in the game. His appearance-to-goal ratio speaks for itself and when a player of this calibre becomes available, it is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Falcao arrives at Old Trafford with a fearsome record that saw him score 155 goals in 200 appearances with FC Porto, Atletico Madrid and Monaco, which he joined in 2013 for £50m.

The 28-year old’s arrival to Old Trafford was preceded by the exits of strikers Javier Hernandez on loan to Real Madrid and Danny Welbeck to Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Welbeck signed a long-term deal with Arsenal for an undisclosed fee and will join up with the Gunners after representing England in upcoming friendly matches against Norway and Switzerland.

The 23-year old, who plays as a left winger and a striker, began his career from the Man. United academy and went on to score 29 goals in 142 appearances for the Red Devils.

Arsenal meanwhile saw defender Ignasi Miquel leave for Norwich City in a £1.5m deal while Japanese winger Ryo Miyaichi joined Dutch club FC Twente on a season-long loan.

Elsewhere before the transfer window closed, Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo completed a switch to Spanish club Valencia on a season-long loan with an option to join permanently afterwards.

Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa meanwhile completed a return to Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, signing a four-year deal with the club he left in 2012 for Manchester United.

Also, Dutch defender Daley Blind sealed a £14m switch to Manchester United from Ajax, while youngsters Nick Powell and Tom Lawrence left the Red Devils for Leicester City; with Powell joining on loan and Lawrence joining the Foxes in a permanent deal.

Southampton signed Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid on a season-long loan deal while in Germany, Hamburg signed Julian Green on loan from Bayern Munich and and Lewis Holtby on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
