French champions Paris St. Germain put in an assured display to overcome Barcelona 3-2 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League Group F match played at the Parc Des Princes on Tuesday night.

Despite being without talismatic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, PSG held off an equally spirited display from the Spanish giants to claim a win that puts the Parisians top of the group with four points from two matches.

In a match seen live by music superstars Jay-Z and Beyonce alongside former PSG midfielder David Beckham, Patrick Kluivert and 2006 World Player of the Year Fabio Cannavaro, Brazil defender David Luiz opened the scoring for PSG with an effort into the bottom corner after 10 minutes.

The lead last just over a minute though, as an intricate passing move from Barcelona saw Lionel Messi exchange passes with Andres Iniesta before slotting into the bottom corner as well.

Italian midfielder Marco Veratti however restored PSG’s lead midway through the first half, heading home a Thiago Motta cornerkick at the the far post moments after Neymar had seen a lobbed effort go over Sirigu and the PSG bar at the other end.

That lead became 3-1 10 minutes into the second half through Blaise Matuidi’s shot off a Gregory van Der Wiel cross but Barça again struck back just over minute later through an ignored Neymar.

Substitute Munir had an effort brush the PSG post five minutes to the end while Luiz made two headed clearances deep in stoppage time as the Parisians held on for the win.

The result makes PSG the first team to score against, as well as beat Barcelona this season, and extended the French club’s unbeaten run in European games played at home to 30 matches.

Elsewhere in the Champions League tonight, Jackson Martinez scored twice in the final four minutes to earn FC Porto a dramatic 2-2 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in Kyiv while Nemanja Matic’s header was enough to give Chelsea a 1-0 win at Sporting Lisbon.
