Following the approval of the 30-man provisional World Cup list submitted by Super Eagles’ Coach, Stephen Keshi, to the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, it is now time for Keshi to hit the ground running to ensure that the Eagles excell in Brazil.

If the Super Eagles must improve on their previous performance at the World Cup, Keshi should get down to serious work by opening the camp very early as he needs to prune down the 30-man list to 23 players that will be in Brazil for the world championship next month.

With Scotland and USA international matches lined up for the team, Keshi should brush aside sentiments and field the best players that can hold their own against world’s best in Brazil.

Keshi should use the opportunity of the friendly matches to determine the fitness level of his players because some of the players warmed the bench in their clubs abroad before he called them up for national assignment.

While planning how the Eagles would do well in Brazil, the NFF should, as a matter of urgency, keep eyes on other countries in the Eagles’ group.

The Eagles are in Group F alongside Argentina, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina. As the saying goes, “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.”

Nothing must be left to chance while preparing the Super Eagles for the challenges ahead. It is our belief that since Keshi says he was not prevailed upon by anybody to invite any player then he knows what he is doing and should be given a free hand to pursue his agenda. Keshi is on the verge of making history if he takes Nigeria to the quarter final or beyond.

After winning the Africa Cup of Nations for Nigeria last year, we believe he could surpass the Eagles’ second round outing at the FIFA World Cup. But he can only do this if he prepares very well for the task ahead.

So far he has been enjoying the support of all Nigerians and the expectation of soccer loving Nigerians is that the Eagles must reciprocate this support and excell at the biggest global football fiesta in Brazil.
