2012 champion Maria Sharapova was in devastating form on her way to booking a fourth round place in the French Open, with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer also joining the Russian in the fourth round.

Hours after third seed Agnieszka Radwanska suffered a shock exit from Roland Garros, Sharapova avoided the upset trend in crushing fashion as she dispatched of Paula Ormaechea without dropping a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Now the highest ranked player left in the women’s draw, Sharapova will next face Samantha Stosur in the fourth round after the 19th seed beat ninth seed Dominka Cibulkova in straight sets earlier.

In another match, Gabriñe Muguruza followed up her win over Serena Williams by defeating fellow youngster Anne Schmiedlova 6-2, 6-4 and reach the French Open fourth round; the furthest she has been to in a grand slam.

Meanwhile in the men’s draw, second seed Novak Djokovic came through a tough match against Marin Cilic, dropping a set for the first time at Roland Garros on his way to a 6-3, 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 win.

Roger Federer also needed four sets in an even tougher contest against Dimitri Tursonov of Russia, with both players winning the opening two sets on tie-breaks before the Swiss man prevailed with a 7-5, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 win eventually.

Federer will now face Ernests Gulbis in the fourth round after the latter continued his good run so far in Paris with a straight sets win over Radek Stepanek.
