European champions Real Madrid have today been ordered to close down part of their Santiago Bernabeu stadium in their next home game in European competition.

The sanction, handed by UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body, comes after the Spanish giants were charged for racist behaviour by their fans during the first leg semi-final match against Bayern Munich in April.

According to a statement on UEFA’s website, the partial stadium closure would affect sections 120 and 122 of the 81,000 seater stadium in Real Madrid’s first home game in next season’s UEFA Champions League, with the club also obliged to display a banner with the wording ‘No to Racism’.

Real Madrid went on to beat Bayern Munich 5-0 on aggregate before defeating city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 after extra-time to win a record 10th European title.
