Most British newspapers speculated today on the likely dismissal of David Moyes, coach of Manchester United, after the club’s humiliation by Everton Sunday.

Mail Online said the owners of the club have indeed taken the decision to sack Moyes today, 21 April. But then, the newspaper showed some uncertainty about the authenticity of its information, by diving into the speculative realm.

“David Moyes will be sacked by Manchester United in the coming weeks and could even go before the end of the day.
United’s owners the Glazer family have finally lost patience with Moyes after a dismal season that has seen the reigning Barclays Premier League champions slump to seventh in the table.

The Irish Independent said that Moyes may be sacked within days, while some other newspapers speculated on the possible successor to the Scotsman.

“The manner of Sunday’s defeat to Everton underlined how far the club have fallen in the 347 days since Moyes took over from Sir Alex Ferguson and the Glazer family now appear to have reached the conclusion that continuing with the 50-year-old would risk an extended period outside of the European elite, which the club cannot afford to take.

“It would make his reign even more undistinguished than the 18 months Wilf McGuiness was given when succeeding Matt Busby. United’s 2-0 loss to Everton on Sunday was the latest evidence that Moyes may be best relieved of his duties and it appears only a matter of time before the decision is taken.”, wrote the Irish Independent.

According to Guardian, Moyes is facing the sack because Manchester United, have finally run out of patience with him and do not believe he can be trusted with the £150m overhaul the club intends to carry out this summer.

“Should he go before the end of the season, which now seems likely, United may put Ryan Giggs in temporary charge”, reported Guardian.

The newspaper said that Moyes has been under scrutiny since last month following the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool. The chief concern for the board is how bad the team have played throughout the season under Moyes, with little sign of improvement. The question now being asked at the highest level is whether he is the right man to be carry out a £150m rebuild .

Moyes: speculations over sack

“The club are determined to rebuild the squad this close season and the discussions between Woodward and the Glazers centre on whether a new manager should be brought in to drive the process.

“When replacing Sir Alex Ferguson last summer Moyes signed a six-year contract as the club were determined that stability should be the best strategy to continue the former manager’s supremely successful 26-year reign.

“That policy appears in ruins, and Woodward and the Glazers are already deliberating over who should succeed Moyes if he is sacked.”
